Back in 2015 , we took on our second BMW Motorcycle dealership when we purchased the shop formerly known as Diablo BMW/Kawasaki. Diablo was a small operation with a big heart (YOU DA’ MAN, SAM!) in Walnut Creek, CA about 25 miles east of San Francisco and 10 miles east of Oakland. We busted our butt for a couple of years in Walnut Creek before finding a bigger home in Concord, CA. By early 2018, the relocation was complete and our new spot was feeling like a big upgrade. But then the toilets stopped working… That’s a long story that you probably don’t care about, so we move on!
We were plugging along, slowly growing in Concord and then COVID… As we hunkered down, masked up and wondered why everything sucked; a deep desire to flip the harsh reality of 2020 on its head set in. So we made up SoSo Cycles… See? If you turn ‘2020’ upside down it looks like ‘5050’. So that’s amazing and confirms we’re super corny all at the same time. Excellent!
Oh and it’s also probably worth mentioning that that we also bought a shop up in Washington in late 2019 that was called ‘South Sound Motorcycles’. That name was just too many letters to be typing over and over and The Boss is kinda lazy so he thought shortening ‘South Sound Motorcycles’ to ‘SoSo Cycles’ would save him a lot of time when firing off internal emails.
PLUS, in 2020 we did lots of paperwork and became an authorized Ducati dealer (so fancy!) and then did more paperwork in 2021 and became the authorized Yamaha dealer (so good!) in Concord. Initially we tried maintaining separate names, websites, email addresses, social media channels and all that for each brand we represent but that was So much work for our relatively small crew that we became sad. To turn the frowns upside down and simplify how we present ourselves to the world, we scrapped all the ‘BMW Motorcycles of Concord’ and ‘Ducati Concord’ business and are now all in as ‘SoSo Cycles’.
If that wasn’t enough of an explanation, we’ll also add that we’re not big on self promotion. We want people to know who we are and what we’re all about (having fun with powersports stuff!) but we’re not gonna walk around bragging about how clearly awesome we are. Instead we aim to get you with the sneaky excellence. Like when we call you back when we say we’re gonna you call back, CRAZY STUFF! So yeah, we know ‘SoSo’ makes people think we’re mediocre or ‘just okay’ but we hope you’ll come down and hang with us a bit to find out what we’re really all about.
All the silly name stuff aside, motorcycles, ATV”s and side-by-side’s are supposed to be fun! We get pretty jazzed seeing new bikes and the folks that make these rides extensions of their personalities and identities. Our focus is to help riders enjoy their powersports lifestyle to the fullest. We’re not the fastest, we’re not the baddest, we’re not the biggest or the fanciest. And we like it like that.
